This course is designed to prepare the students for the IB Dance exams (submissions) their senior year.  Students participate in their level appropriate dance technique class, and with IB Dance further explore the elements of Composition, Performance Techniques, and World Dance Studies.  Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have prepared and performed a solo dance composition and begun work on a second choreographic study.  In addition a World Dance area of study will be declared and an abstract of the research project submitted. Emphasis will be placed on examining the culture and identity of the dance makers and performers by observing the climate of ideas, the scale of values, and the socio-political conditions that influenced the development of Western Dance. Through dance classes, lectures, workshop demonstrations, text readings, internet research and performances-live and filmed, students will explore cultural dance as a product of and a link to its society.
